PROGRAM > CHECK IN BUDAPEST

The goal of the Check in Budapest visitor program - initiated and organized by ACAX | Agency for Contemporary Art Exchange  - is to introduce the Hungarian art scene and its protagonists to renowned foreign art experts in order to promote and support the international appearance and integration of the Hungarian institutions and artists.

In the framework of the program ACAX invites contemporary art experts and curators - either independent or employed by an acknowledged institution - to Budapest for a curatorial research trip. Each visitor is selected upon the relevance of their current plans and activities to the Hungarian art scene.
Taking into consideration the special interests and needs of each guest ACAX organizes visits to different museums and galleries as well as meetings with artists, curators and key cultural producers.
The curatorial research program is completed by a public lecture or a panel discussion where the invited visitors present the current situation and professional ideas of their own art scene.

As a result of the Check in Budapest program in the past few years several Hungarian artists were invited to participate in major international biennials and shows. >>>

The Check in Budapest program is supported by the Hungarian Ministry of Education and Culture.
The photographic section of the program - organized between December 2009 and March 2010 - was supported by the Photography Department of the National Cultural Fund of Hungary.

THE PRODUCERS

Between 15 November and 14 December, in addition to the programs associated with the exhibition OVERCOMING, Műcsarnok/Kunsthalle is organising a three-day workshop for young curators and a lecture series for the wider audience by the title THE PRODUCERS.
The central topic Between 15 November and 14 December, in addition to the programs associated with the exhibition OVERCOMING, Műcsarnok/Kunsthalle is organising a three-day workshop for young curators and a lecture series for the wider audience by the title THE PRODUCERS.
The central topic will be artistic and curatorial production, including its history, as well as its conceptual, contextual and economic framework/operation. The course will primarily examine the production and producer related possibilities of the different strategies and "scripts" currently in use (biennials, commercial-based and non-profit institutional forms, "nomadic" curatorial projects, etc.). It will also highlight those prominent actors (artists, curators, writers, etc.) whose work significantly determines and shapes how we think about the work/role of the producer and artistic/curatorial production. Invited Hungarian and international guests will reflect on these various strategies through their own work and
experiences.
Concept: Lívia PÁLDI chief curator, Műcsarnok / Kunsthalle Budapest
