The primary goal of ACAX | Agency for Contemporary Art Exchange is to promote and support the international presence and integration of the Hungarian contemporary art scene. Our activity is centred on establishing and maintaining efficient communication and continuous professional collaboration among the Hungarian and international members of the contemporary art scene.

ACAX’s major scope of operation is the organization and professional-financial support of residency programs for artists and visitor programs for curators. We devote special attention to the preparation of and provision for Hungarian participation at international biennials and other significant shows. Additionally, we take active part in organizing exhibitions, conferences, public events and other projects in collaboration with international contemporary art institutions.

As of 1 September 2008, ACAX (est. January 2006) continues to operate within the organizational framework of Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art, as an independent program of the museum.

ACAX’s professional projects are realized with subsidies from the Ministry of Education and Culture, along with additional support from Hungarian and international state, public and private funds.

The ACAX team comprises Tijana Stepanovic (aesthete, curator) and Rita Kálmán (art historian, independent curator).
